1. About the Department

 

The Department of Business Administration of the Technological Educational Institute (T.E.I.) of Epirus, was established in the academic year 2013-14as the offspring of the merger of the Department of Applied Foreign Languages ​​in Management and Commerce and the Department of Tourism Business of the T.E.I. of Epirus.

 

The Department of Applied Foreign Languages ​​in Management and Commerce started its operation in the academic year 1999-2000 and the first graduates were awarded degrees in October 2003.

 

The Department of Tourism Business started the academic year 1996-1997 with the first graduates entering the labour market in 2000.

 

From this merger, two study tracks were created (Business Administration and Tourism and Hospitality Management) with separate student enrolments, with the first track being divided into two advanced semester tracks.

 

More precisely, the Department of Business Administration is structured as follows:

 

A) Business Administration, allowing students to choose from the third semester on between

 

1) Business Administration

 

2) Applied Foreign Languages in Management and Economics

 

and

 

B) Tourism and Hospitality Management

 

As a result, the Department of Business Administration offers courses on economics, management and tourism with a special focus on languages through the study of four foreign languages.

 

The aim of the Department is to provide students with the knowledge and skills required to meet the modern needs of the labour market in the areas of management, economics and tourism, as well as language services provision to businesses and organizations.

 

The Department is staffed by tenured and adjunct educational staff with international research activity, and actively participates in the scientific development of the country. Moreover, it has aninstitutionalized research laboratory (EPOS - Laboratory for Communication and Organizational Behaviour) as well as an online scientific journal (International Journal of Language, Translation and Intercultural Communication). It has also taken part in International and Greek research projects and organized five international conferences and several workshops on topics related to economy, management, foreign languages ​​and tourism. Furthermore, the Department collaborates with European higher education institutions on Erasmus Plus level giving studentsthe opportunity to apply for an internship. Finally, all graduates have officially recognized professional rights.

 

The Department aims to provide graduates the knowledge and skills allowing them to enter the business world and the wider labour market, in both the private and public sector, with the knowledge of foreign languages ​​and intercultural communication awareness as additional qualifications.

 

The Department of Business Administration is housed in the premises of TEI of Epirus in Igoumenitsa, which offer an educational environment tailored to the modern needs of tertiary education, with amphitheaters and fully equipped IT laboratories.

 

 

 

2. Curriculum

 

 

 

The duration of studies is eight (8) semesters. In brief, the track curricula are as follows:

 

A. Business Administration with advanced semester study tracks

 

A.1. Business Administration

 

The aim is for graduates to be able to meet the challenges of the global economy, intense international business competition and technology development, with a focus on enhancing the extroversion of the national and European economy. The transfer of knowledge, methodology of problem analysis, know-how and those functional tools that are necessary in the modern field of business and organization administration is based on their application both in the making of effective management decisions and in general in the achievement of better operation of enterprises and organizations.

 

A.2. Applied Foreign Languages in Management and Economics

 

The courses cover the field of applied foreign languages ​​in management and economics with the aim of training private and public sector executives with specialized knowledge of at least two languages, knowledge of the mechanisms of written and oral communication beyond cultural boundaries, as well as high level training in management, economics and commerce. Students focus on the subjects of Management and Economics and at the same time they are initiated into the "art" of Intercultural Communication so that they can efficiently use their knowledge and skills of written and oral business communication, as well as for wider economic and management activities in the labour market. Consequently, graduates acquire the necessary scientific and technological knowledge and skills during their studies in order to be able to work in businesses, private and publicsector services in the domestic and international business environment.

 

 

 

B. Tourism and Hospitality Management

 

Having acquired specialized scientific and technical knowledge, graduates will be able to work, either individually or in collaboration with other scientists in the field of Tourism and Hospitality Management in Organizations and Services of the private and public sectors.

 

 

 

3. Career prospects

 

Α. Business Administration

 

Upon completion of their studies, graduates of the Business Administration track have the necessary scientific and technological knowledge and skills to work in the fields of the track specialization either as managers or executives in enterprises, organizations and services of the private and public sectors or as self-employed.

 

In particular, graduates may be employed as:

 

- Business executives in the areas of management, organization and sales.

 

- Executives of the wider public sector and local administration services in matters of business policy and development.

 

- Consultants in business development companies.

 

 

 

Graduates of the track of Applied Foreign Languages ​​in Management and Economics can work as:

 

- Executives in companies and organizations operating internationally in the context of any business or service communication.

 

- Providers of language, translation and interpreting services in the areas of management and commerce and as free-lancers for the languages ​​in which they have been trained.

 

- Executives of the wider public sector and local government.

 

 

 

B. Tourism and Hospitality Management

 

 

 

Graduates of Tourism and Hospitality Management track may be employed as:

 

- Executives of the wider public sector and local administration services in matters of tourism policy and development.

 

- Executives in businesses and organizations active in the tourism sector.

 

- Self-employed in the tourism sector.

 

- Business executives in areas such as the foundation, operation, organization and management of businesses (mainly hotels and travel agencies)

 

- Executives of tourism development offices

 

- Executives in airlines and shipping companies

 

- Executives in conference organization and management offices, offices of development studies etc.
